Five Saint Bernard Puppies Fell Asleep in One Cozy Blanket
Five red and white Saint Bernard puppies are wrapped in a cream knit blanket, so deeply asleep that no one seems to notice the camera. They are heaped together with paws over faces and noses tucked under chins, and one at the top has just opened a sleepy eye. Behind them, a basket, a plaid blanket and a sofa suggest a living room that has been well used.
Puppies who sleep in a heap often do so for warmth and comfort. Giant breed puppies grow fast and need plenty of rest, and a warm, quiet place to nap supports that growth. A blanket is a fine bed for a young pup, but watch for chewing, and wash it regularly. A good bed with a firm base will also be gentler on a heavy puppy's joints.
As adults, Saint Bernards are huge but famously gentle, and many are happy to spend most of the day lounging near their family. Even so, they need regular walks, moderate play and training to stay healthy and well mannered. Their size makes early training especially important, so begin teaching basic skills while they are small.
For the moment, nothing is asked of them. They have a warm blanket, a full tummy and each other, and the afternoon is going to be a long, quiet one.
