Three Puppies Found the Warmest Spot in the House
A warm stripe of light has landed on the old hardwood floor, and three dark brown puppies have lined up right inside it. They lie shoulder to shoulder, chins resting on the boards, ears draped forward, looking sleepy and a little dazed. Their coats glow a deep chocolate in the sun. In the background a wicker basket, a knit blanket, and a couple of chew toys wait in the shade by a bright window.
Dogs of every age love a sunny patch, and puppies are no exception. Warmth feels soothing, and a dog will happily follow a sunbeam across a room through the afternoon. It is a lovely habit to encourage, with one caution: on very hot days, make sure your puppy can move to a cooler spot and always has fresh water nearby. Puppies can overheat more easily than we expect, so shade and water are always the sensible choice.
Hardwood floors are slippery for tiny paws, too. A rug or runner in the play area gives young pups better footing and helps them feel steady as they grow. Litters like this one tend to stay close together, which is why you rarely see one puppy napping alone.
These three look as if they have agreed on one rule for the afternoon: no one leaves the sunbeam until it fades. Judging by those heavy eyelids, nobody is in any hurry.
