Three Puppies, One Snowy Yard, and a Whole Lot of Tracks
Fresh snow has covered the yard, and three golden puppies are making the most of it. One lowers his head near the ground, as if sniffing for something interesting. The middle pup stands with a pink tongue peeking out in a happy grin. The third leans in to nuzzle his sibling, nose to cheek. A trail of round paw prints crosses the foreground, while a pair of tall rubber boots and a coiled hose rest near the wall behind them.
Snow is wonderful for a puppy's curiosity, but cold weather calls for some care. Young puppies get chilly faster than grown dogs, so keep outings short and watch for shivering or lifted paws. After playing, wipe off their feet and tummies, since ice, salt, and de-icing products can irritate skin and should not be licked. Fresh water indoors is still important in winter. Your vet can advise on how cold is too cold for your puppy's age and size.
Golden Retrievers have a thick, water-repellent double coat, which is part of why many of them seem to love cold weather and splashing around. Even so, a young pup is not a grown Golden, and he needs warmth and a dry place to rest afterward.
Judging from the tracks, these three have covered every inch of this patch. The only thing left to figure out is who gets to lead the way back inside.
