Five Fluffy Puppies Squeezed Into One Basket and One Fell Asleep
Five little white faces are squeezed into one round wicker basket, like a bouquet of cotton. The pups at the top left and right look out with dark, glossy eyes, the one in the center has drifted off to sleep with his nose tucked in, and two more peek from the bottom with their chins on the rim. A worktable with keys and a bowl, a denim jacket, and a plant sit in the cluttered, sunny room behind them.
A basket full of Maltese puppies is a charming sight, but it is also a good reminder about size. Maltese stay tiny even as adults, and their light bones are easy to injure. A basket mounted on a bike is not a safe seat, so keep it still, with a person right beside it. For outings, a secure, purpose-made carrier designed for small dogs is far safer.
Because they are so small, Maltese puppies can also chill quickly and may be prone to low blood sugar if they miss meals, so a regular feeding schedule is important. If a puppy seems weak, wobbly, or unusually sleepy, call your vet right away. Warm bedding and a calm, safe space help little ones settle in.
One sleeper, four watchers, and a basket that will not hold another paw. It's a very full house.
