Three Weimaraner Puppies Followed the Sunbeam Across the Floor
A single strip of sunlight stretches across the hardwood floor, and three silver-gray puppies are lined up in it like sunbathers. They are curled, tucked and stacked in sleepy loops, ears folded, noses resting on paws, with the warm light making their coats glow soft silver. The wall behind them is plain and quiet, and the only sound is probably a tiny snore. Nobody is moving, and nobody wants to.
Dogs seek out warm patches of sun, and puppies especially do, since young ones are not great at keeping their temperature steady. A sunny spot is nice for a nap, but make sure there is also shade and fresh water nearby, and do not let them overheat. Weimaraners have short coats and light skin, so they can get too warm or even sunburned in strong direct sun. Floors can be hard on small joints, so offer a soft rug or blanket as well. Talk to your vet about comfortable temperatures for your puppy.
By the time the sun slides off the boards, they will shuffle along behind it. Following the warmth is a very good life plan.
Sun patches are a gift to anyone who loves a nap, and puppies know it better than most. When the light moves on, the group will move too, one sleepy shuffle at a time, until the next warm spot appears.
