Five Weimaraner Puppies and the Sock Everyone Wanted
One gray sock, five silver-gray puppies and a very serious tug-of-war. Two pups bite at the middle, one hangs on to the end with both paws, another peeks over a sibling's shoulder, and a fifth is just waiting for a chance to join in. Their eyes are wide and their ears bob with effort. A blue chew bone lies abandoned on the floor beside them, along with scattered toys, a basket and a cardboard box. The sock has clearly won the popularity contest.
Tug can be a great game for puppies, as long as the rules stay gentle. Let the puppy win sometimes, stop if it gets too rough, and teach a cue like 'drop it' so they learn to let go. Socks are not the best choice, though. Swallowed fabric is a common cause of blockages in dogs, so swap the sock for a rope toy or a tug toy made for puppies. Weimaraner puppies are strong and enthusiastic, so supervise play among littermates and call a break if anyone seems overwhelmed.
The sock will not survive the afternoon, but the puppies will have a thoroughly good time.
By the time the sock gives out, the puppies will all be panting and happy, rolling over each other on the floor. It is a good reminder that sometimes the simplest toy makes the biggest party.
