A Weimaraner Puppy Dozed Off on a Sunny Patchwork Quilt
One silver-gray puppy has settled onto a patchwork quilt and gone off to dreamland. Her head rests heavily on a patch of faded floral fabric, her long ears are tucked against the cloth and her whole body slopes into a soft curve. The quilt is a quilt of blues, creams and oranges, and warm daylight falls across it. A leafy garden and a wooden fence are just visible behind her. The only movement is the gentle rise and fall of her side.
Sleep is serious business for puppies, and a growing Weimaraner may nap many hours a day. Offer a consistent place for naps, so your puppy learns that it is for resting, and try not to wake it unless needed. A quiet corner, a soft surface and a relaxed household all help. Outdoor naps are fine on mild days, but puppies should have shade, water and supervision, and never be left outside in extreme weather. If your puppy seems unusually sleepy or hard to rouse, check in with your vet.
The quilt has seen many afternoons, but probably not one quite so quiet. She looks perfectly at home.
Warm quilts carry the memory of many family afternoons, and this one has a new fan. Her soft breathing and the faded patchwork make a scene that feels as old and comfortable as a favorite song.
