Five Chocolate Chihuahua Puppies Packed Themselves Into One Basket
A wicker basket on the floor is packed to the brim with five chocolate-brown Chihuahua puppies. Their round eyes look in all directions, their ears are folded or half-raised, and their tousled fur stands up in tufts. The biggest one sits at the back, looking out from the top of the pile, while the others pile in front with chins on the rim. A cluttered corner with a rope, a sneaker and a gray blanket sits beside them.
Baskets, boxes and other tight spaces make Chihuahua puppies feel safe, probably because they resemble dens. A basket with a soft blanket can make a lovely bed, as long as it is sturdy and does not have sharp ends. Tiny breeds can be easy to lose in blankets, so be careful when sitting down or opening doors. Chihuahuas are known for being alert and sometimes a bit shy with strangers, so gentle early socialization helps them grow into confident dogs.
If you are introducing new people, ask them to let the puppy come to them. A treat can help break the ice. A Chihuahua's bark can be surprisingly loud, and calm, consistent training can teach the difference between a useful alert and a habit. Many Chihuahuas live a long time, so a puppy chosen today may be a companion for well over a decade.
For now, the basket is full, the puppies are cozy and there is a lot of fluff in a very small space.
