Grandpa Was Hanging the Sheets. Something Burst Out From Underneath.
Laundry day just became an obstacle course. Grandpa reaches up with two wooden clothespins, stretching a big white sheet across the line, and from underneath the billowing fabric comes Mochi at a happy trot. The black pug's tongue is out, his ears flapping, one front paw raised mid-stride as he bursts through the gap like a performer making a grand entrance. Grandpa, in a beige sweater vest over a navy shirt, glances down with an amused grin. Baskets of clothes, a pair of gardening gloves, potted herbs, and slippers by the door are scattered across the brick patio.
Bursts of playful running like this are sometimes called the zoomies, and they're a normal way for dogs to release energy and express excitement. Pugs are generally mellow, but most enjoy short play sessions, and games around the house and yard are a good way to keep them active. Because pugs gain weight easily, those little sprints count. Just keep play sessions short on hot days, since flat-faced breeds can overheat quickly. Around the laundry line, watch out for clothespins and socks: dogs sometimes chew or swallow small fabric items, which can cause blockages. If a dog swallows something it shouldn't, call your vet.
The sheets may need a second rinse after this, but Grandpa doesn't look too bothered. A clean shirt can wait a few minutes. A pug having the time of his life in the sunshine is worth stopping to watch.
