The Old Pickup Has One Passenger Who Never Misses a Ride
The old pickup has seen its share of miles, and it has a regular passenger who wouldn't miss a ride for anything. Grandpa sits behind the big steering wheel in his faded fishing vest and plaid shirt, white mustache framing a contented smile. Beside him, Domino sits tall on the worn bench seat, spotted chest out, brown collar on, mouth slightly open in a happy grin as he gazes out at the world. Through the windows, a backyard comes into view with potted geraniums, a blue watering can, a woodpile, and a chain-link fence.
Dogs love car rides, but safety in vehicles is often overlooked. An unrestrained dog can be thrown forward in a sudden stop, and front-seat airbags can seriously injure a dog in a collision. For these reasons, many safety advocates recommend that dogs ride in the back seat secured with a crash-tested harness, or in a well-secured crate. Dogs should never ride loose in an open truck bed, where they can fall or jump out. And never leave a dog alone in a parked vehicle, even on mild days, since temperatures inside can climb quickly. Dalmatians are big, athletic dogs, so a sturdy restraint is especially important.
Still, there's something timeless about this pair and their old truck. Whether the destination is the feed store or nowhere in particular, Domino is ready to go, and Grandpa wouldn't have it any other way.
