Grandpa Knelt by the Pond to Feed the Ducks. His Hairless Cat Came to Supervise.

At the edge of a small, leaf-strewn pond, three mallards have gathered around a scattering of seed, and a fourth bobs in the shallow water. Grandpa Earl crouches beside them, glasses on, carefully pouring another handful of grain from his cupped palms. A few feet away, Peaches sits upright in the grass, front paws together, big ears turned toward the ducks and amber eyes fixed on the commotion. She isn't stalking, just studying, as if she's trying to work out what kind of strange guests these are. A blue watering can, a garden hose, and a flowerpot sit in the grass behind them.

Feeding ducks is a classic pastime, and a few tips make it better for the birds. Bread is a common choice, but it offers ducks very little nutrition and leftover pieces can foul the water. Better options include cracked corn, oats, birdseed, or chopped greens, offered in small amounts so nothing goes to waste. When a cat is along, supervision is important. Even a gentle, curious cat has natural hunting instincts, and ducks can also give a startled cat a nasty peck or flap. Keep the cat on a harness so both animals stay safe. For a Sphynx, damp pond edges and cool breezes can chill bare skin quickly, so keep visits brief.

Earl gets to watch the ducks enjoy their feast, and Peaches gets a front-row seat to the most interesting show in town. Everyone stays fed, safe, and thoroughly entertained.
