An older man in a fishing vest sleeps in a rope hammock under trees with a yellow Labrador curled up asleep on his lap. 11 / 40

The Hammock Was Built for One Person. Nobody Told the Labrador.

A rope hammock was probably designed for one person, but nobody told Sunny. She has curled up right on top of Grandpa Gus's lap, her big yellow body filling the sag in the middle, her head resting on his knee and her eyes peacefully closed. Grandpa sleeps too, one arm around her, his head tipped back against the netting and his sandals poking out the end. Leaves dappled with sunlight hang overhead, a few have already dropped onto the grass, and a fence and potted plants hint at a quiet backyard far from any schedule.

Napping together is a classic sign of a close bond, but a hammock is a tricky place for a large dog. Labradors are solid, heavy animals, and a sudden swing or roll can tip them out awkwardly. If your dog loves to join you, make sure the hammock is rated for the combined weight, keep it low to the ground, and help your dog in and out rather than letting them leap. Older Labs especially should avoid big jumps, since the breed can be prone to joint problems. On warm days, choose shade like these trees provide, and always have fresh water nearby, as dogs can overheat more quickly than people expect.

This hammock is clearly over capacity, and neither of them seems to mind one bit. Some afternoons are simply meant for doing nothing together.
