Grandpa Closed His Eyes for One Sip of Coffee. A Nose Moved In.
Early sun warms the weathered porch steps, and Grandpa Gus has claimed his favorite spot with a big mug of coffee. His cap is pulled low, his eyes are crinkled shut in pure contentment, and his fishing vest already has a few tools tucked in the pockets for whatever the day brings. Sunny sits right in front of him with her nose lifted toward the mug and her mouth slightly open, clearly curious about whatever smells so good. Around them, garden gloves, a watering can, rubber boots, and pots of herbs crowd the steps of a cottage that obviously sees a lot of outdoor work.
Here is one breakfast drink to never share: coffee. Caffeine is toxic to dogs, and coffee grounds, beans, and caffeinated tea can all cause problems even in small amounts. Signs can include restlessness, a racing heart, vomiting, and tremors, so if a dog gets into coffee, call your vet right away. The easiest prevention is simply keeping mugs out of reach and not leaving them on low steps or tables. Labradors are known for exploring the world with their mouths, which makes this especially important. If your dog loves to be part of your morning ritual, offer a safe chew or a few pieces of kibble so they feel included while you enjoy your cup.
Sunny will have to settle for the smell and the company. Judging by Grandpa's grin, the company is the best part of the morning anyway.
