Frank Started Up the Old Pickup for a Drive. The Best Seat Went to Bean.
The old pickup has seen better days. Its bench seat is cracked and faded, the dashboard has a few dings, and the steering wheel is worn smooth. None of that matters to its crew. Frank sits at the wheel in a khaki cap, glasses, and green plaid shirt, grinning out the window. Dottie leans in from the far side, cheerful in a lilac sweater with her silver curls framing her face. And right in the middle of the seat, sitting tall like a proud co-pilot, is Bean. The black pug has his tongue poking out in a happy pant, his eyes bright, ready for wherever this ride might go.
Riding along in the family vehicle is a highlight for many dogs, but safety matters. An unrestrained dog can be thrown forward in a sudden stop or distract the driver, so a crash-tested harness that clips to a seat belt or a secured travel crate is the safest option. Small breeds like pugs should not ride in the front where an airbag could deploy, and it is best to keep heads inside the cab rather than out the window, where debris can hurt eyes. On warm days, remember that pugs overheat easily, so make sure the cab is cool and never leave a dog alone in a parked vehicle.
Whether they are off to the hardware store or just taking the long way around the neighborhood, these three look like they are having the time of their lives. Some road trips are all about the company.
