Frank and Dottie Spent the Morning Shoveling Snow. Bean Spent It Very Differently.
Overnight snow has buried the driveway, so Frank and Dottie are out with their shovels. Dottie is bundled in a green parka with a fur-lined hood and a knit hat, pushing a shovel full of fresh powder, while Frank, in a navy jacket, gloves, and a gray beanie, leans into his own scoop behind her. Neither of them seems to mind the work, thanks to the entertainment. Bean, the black pug, is sprawled in a fluffy snowbank right beside them, front legs stretched out, tongue flopping, and snow sticking to his whiskers. He looks absolutely thrilled with this whole winter situation.
Many dogs adore snow, and short romps can be great exercise. Pugs have short coats and small bodies, though, so they can get cold quickly. Keeping winter playtime brief, using a dog sweater or coat, and bringing your pup inside if you notice shivering, lifting paws, or slowing down are all good habits. Snow and ice can collect between toes, and de-icing salts on sidewalks and driveways can irritate paw pads or upset a dog's stomach if licked. Wiping paws with a warm, damp cloth after coming inside, or choosing pet-safe ice melt, helps keep feet healthy all season.
The driveway will be cleared eventually, and everyone will head inside for something warm. For now, Bean is having the snow day of his dreams, and his joy seems to be making the shoveling a whole lot lighter.
