Grandpa Took His Coffee Out to the Porch Steps. He Wasn't Alone for Long.
The porch steps are still cool from the night, and Henry has settled onto them with a big cream-colored mug of coffee held close to his chest. He is gazing down at Peanut with a quiet, fond little smile. Peanut sits on the step just below him, her long cream fur fluffed up and her feathered ears tipped back, staring off across the yard like she is keeping an eye on the morning traffic. Potted plants and herbs line the steps, the garden fence glows softly in the background, and neither of them is in any hurry.
Chihuahuas are tiny, but they tend to bond intensely with one special person, which is part of why they are such devoted companions for older adults. They are portable, need less space than larger breeds, and are usually happy with short walks and plenty of lap time. They do feel the cold easily, though, so a sweater or blanket on chilly mornings is a good idea. Hot drinks deserve a little caution, too. A curious Chihuahua can easily get under a spilled mug, and coffee itself is not safe for dogs because caffeine can make them sick. Keep the cup up high and out of nose range.
Some mornings are made for doing nothing in particular, and this looks like one of them. Henry has his coffee, Peanut has the best seat on the step, and the day can start whenever it is ready.
