Grandpa Hung a Hammock Right in the Living Room. The Cat Moved In First.

AI imagepersian cathammocknap

Someone strung a rope hammock right through the living room, between two big potted trees, and it may be the best decision this household ever made. Edna and Frank are nestled into it together, heads leaning, both sound asleep in their cream cable-knit sweaters, with a blue plaid blanket tucked around them. Sprawled across their laps is Duchess, her white fur spilling over everyone, eyes shut and face perfectly peaceful. Bookshelves, a framed photo, a lamp, and a basket of yarn balls fill the corners of this cozy, cluttered room.

Cats often love sleeping on their people, and it is generally a sign of trust and affection. Warm bodies make an ideal heat source, and a gentle rocking motion seems to suit some cats very well. Hammocks, though, can tip or swing unexpectedly, so make sure a cat can get in and out easily and is not likely to get tangled in loose netting or fringe. Indoor plants are another thing to check in a cat household. Many popular houseplants, including lilies, pothos, and certain palms, can be harmful if chewed, so it is worth confirming that every pot in reach is cat-safe.

Whoever had the idea for an indoor hammock deserves a medal. Edna and Frank are getting the best nap of the week, and Duchess clearly considers this her new favorite bed.
