Grandpa Fell Asleep in the Hammock. Two Tiny Guards Took Their Posts.
Grandpa Gus has drifted off in a rope hammock strung between two trees, wrapped in a blue and red plaid blanket with his head tipped back and his mouth set in a peaceful line. Below him, two little white guards are on duty. Pearl and her look-alike brother, Button, sit side by side in the grass, both with silky ears, dark eyes, and shiny black noses, staring off in the same direction like a matched pair of fluffy sentries. Behind them, the house has potted plants along the walk and a green watering can by the step.
Maltese are affectionate, people-loving dogs that often bond closely with their owners, and many enjoy the company of another small dog. They were bred for centuries as companions, so they tend to prefer being near their humans rather than off on their own. That devotion is part of their charm, though it also means some Maltese can feel anxious when left alone for long stretches. Regular routines, gentle training, and plenty of time together help them feel secure. Having a calm canine friend can also be comforting for some dogs, though every dog's personality is different.
These two don't seem the least bit anxious. With Gus snoozing just above them, they've settled into their posts, watching the yard for squirrels and other suspicious activity.
Naps are always more peaceful when you know two tiny, devoted guards have everything under control.
