Grandpa Ken Made Popcorn for Movie Night. Rocco Skipped the Movie.
The living room is a happy jumble of blankets, magazines, and remotes, and movie night is officially on. Grandpa Ken leans forward on the couch with a big ceramic bowl of popcorn, grinning down at the very serious face next to him. Rocco has positioned his wrinkled muzzle just inches from the rim, brown eyes rolled up toward Ken with the hopeful, soulful look that Boxers seem to perfect. A brown collar sits snug on his neck, and a coffee table cluttered with glasses, a tissue box, and a remote fills the background.
Plain, air-popped popcorn in small amounts is generally considered safe for dogs, but the movie-theater style version is another story. Butter, oil, and salt can cause stomach upset, and salty snacks are not a good habit for any dog. Seasonings like garlic or onion powder are harmful to dogs, and unpopped kernels can crack teeth or become a choking hazard. If you want to include your dog in movie night, offer a few plain, fully popped pieces or, better yet, a dog-friendly chew that will keep him busy through the opening credits. Boxers can be prone to weight gain, so keep treats modest.
Rocco does not know what movie is playing and does not care. As far as he is concerned, the main feature is that bowl, and Ken is clearly a soft touch.
