Frank and Ruth Bundled Up by the Fire. Snowdrop Made Sure She Was in the Picture.
A wood fire roars in the old stone hearth, and Frank and Ruth have wrapped themselves together in one big green plaid blanket, cheeks rosy and smiles wide. They're snuggled so close you can barely tell where one ends and the other begins. Spread across their laps in the front is Snowdrop, who looks enormous up close. Her white mane is lush and full, her ear tufts are perked, and her golden eyes stare straight ahead with a serene, almost regal confidence. Behind them, the firelight flickers across the rough stone walls, and a cluttered side table holds books and odds and ends.
Cats love warmth, and a fire on a cold evening is hard for them to resist. Still, open flames and embers call for care. A sturdy fireplace screen keeps curious pets back from sparks and hot logs, and long, fluffy fur like a Norwegian Forest Cat's can singe more easily than you might think. Never leave a fire unattended with pets in the room, and store matches, lighters and fireplace tools out of reach. Ashes can stay hot for a surprisingly long time, so keep them in a metal container away from pets. Thanks to their thick coats, Forest Cats can get warm quickly, so make sure they can move away from the heat whenever they like.
With the fire crackling and the plaid wrapped tight, this is about as cozy as an evening can get. Snowdrop seems to agree; she's not going anywhere.
