Frank and Marion Wore Their Matching Sweaters to the Pumpkin Patch. Cocoa Led the Way.
Frank and Marion are strolling arm in arm down a dirt path between the pumpkin vines, dressed in matching cream sweaters with brown diamond patterns that look made for an autumn afternoon. Marion is laughing, and Frank smiles beside her through his glasses. Out in front, Cocoa leads the way, her chocolate curls bouncing, mouth open in a cheerful pant as she trots between the bright orange pumpkins. Pumpkins of all sizes are scattered across the patch, and a fence, a shed with garden tools, and a blue watering can sit at the edge of the yard.
Fall is a lovely season for outdoor walks with a dog, but a pumpkin patch has a few things to keep in mind. Plain cooked pumpkin is a common treat for dogs, but raw stems, tough rinds, and vines can be hard to digest, and pumpkins left to rot can grow mold that may upset a dog's stomach. Autumn also brings ticks and burrs, which can disappear into a Poodle's dense curls. Running your fingers through the coat after a walk, especially around the ears, neck, and legs, is a good habit. For older couples, a slow walk with a dog is a pleasant way to stay active together and enjoy the changing season.
Frank and Marion may be on the hunt for the perfect pumpkin, but Cocoa seems happy just to lead the parade. It is hard to imagine a sweeter fall outing.
