Grandpa Just Wanted to Wash the Old Car. Peanut Had a Wetter Idea.

Water flies everywhere, and Peanut is right in the middle of it. Earl stands in the driveway with the garden hose, rinsing down an old silver sedan, when his little Yorkie bounds straight into the spray. She is caught mid-hop, front paws up, mouth open in a joyful grin, her silky coat already soaked and sticking out in wet tufts. Earl looks down at her with an amused, slightly resigned expression. A blue bucket sits on the wet concrete, and a chain-link fence and a wooden fence surround the cluttered yard.

Plenty of dogs love chasing water from a hose, and on warm days it can be a fun way to cool off. A few precautions help keep the game safe. Water left sitting in a hose under the sun can get surprisingly hot, so let it run for a moment before spraying near a pet. Car-wash soaps, waxes, and cleaners are not meant for dogs and should be kept away from their coats and mouths, along with any puddles of soapy runoff. A Yorkie's fine coat should be towel-dried and brushed after getting soaked to prevent tangles, and small dogs can chill quickly, so a warm spot afterward is a good idea.

The car may or may not end up clean, but Peanut is having the time of her life. Earl clearly knew what he was signing up for when he turned that hose on. Some chores are better with a little splash of chaos.
