Grandma Dot and Waffles Found the Sunniest Spot in the Yard

AI imagecorgilawn napbackyard

The afternoon has gone completely still. Grandma Dot lies on a cream blanket in the grass, curly gray hair on a rolled pillow, glasses slipping a little as she dozes. Waffles lies curled beside her with her chin resting on the blanket edge, eyes closed and ears soft. Dot's gray cardigan matches the dog's tan and black coat in the warm light. Behind them a wooden fence glows in the sun, a clay pot of flowers sits against the boards, and a few leaves have drifted onto the grass.

Dogs love a sunny nap, and so do many people. A warm patch of lawn gives a dog a comfortable place to rest, but sun and heat need a little attention. On warm days make sure there is shade and fresh water nearby, and watch for signs of overheating such as heavy panting or sluggishness. Check the grass for burrs or insect spots, and keep up with flea and tick prevention as your vet advises. A short outdoor rest in mild weather is good for both pet and person.

Neither of them seems in any hurry to wake up. The sun is warm, the grass is soft, and the afternoon belongs entirely to the two of them. The afternoon sun slowly moves across the yard, and the two of them stay perfectly still, each one the other's favorite pillow. There is no better way to spend a warm afternoon than resting without a care.
