Harold and Bea Said They'd Watch One Episode. Peanut Knew Better.
Whatever was on TV did not stand a chance. Harold and Bea have drifted off together in their oversized recliner, heads tipped toward each other, both wrapped in chunky cream cable-knit sweaters. Bea leans into Harold's shoulder with her eyes peacefully closed, and Harold looks just as gone. Peanut, the little fawn Chihuahua, has claimed the wide armrest as her own private bed, chin resting on the cushion, eyes half shut, joining the group nap. A few stray bits of straw or fluff dot the armrest, and the dark TV and a mug sit on the shelf across the room.
Napping with a pet nearby is a familiar comfort for many people, and small dogs like Chihuahuas often love a warm, high perch close to their people. A few safety notes help, though. Little dogs can be hurt by a fall from tall furniture or by a recliner's moving parts, so it is worth checking where the dog is before reclining or closing the footrest. A pet step or ramp can make getting up and down easier on tiny joints. Chihuahuas also seek out warmth, which explains why a spot pressed right against two cozy sweaters is so popular.
There is nothing dramatic happening here, just three sleepyheads in a quiet living room. Sometimes the sweetest part of the evening is the nap nobody planned.
