Gus Watered the Flower Box. Pudding Picked the Perfect Spot to Supervise.
A long wooden planter overflows with pink, purple and orange blooms, and Grandpa Gus leans over it with a metal watering can, glasses low on his nose and a look of calm concentration. Right beside the flowers sits Pudding, with fluffy tufts of cream fur drifting around him and his round eyes turned to the flowers. A couch and lamp glow in the room behind them, as though the garden has come inside. A few cream tufts of fur cling to the leaves, and the sun through the window makes the water droplets sparkle as they fall from the spout. The room beyond holds a couch and a lamp, as if the garden has been invited indoors for the afternoon.
Plants and cats are a classic pairing, but some blooms are not safe for them. Lilies are especially dangerous, and plants like azaleas and sago palms can also cause serious illness. Before you add flowers to a home with a cat, check a pet-safe plant list or ask your vet. Persians shed a lot, so a little fur in the dirt is a sign of a happy cat who spends time near you. Brushing him regularly helps keep the hair off your plants and out of his coat.
Watering the flowers is a daily job, and Gus does it with care. Pudding supervises from the best seat. The blooms are doing very well under such close inspection.
