Gus Started Dancing in the Kitchen. Pudding Followed Every Single Step.
Grandpa Gus is mid-spin in the middle of a sunny kitchen, one arm outstretched, a wide, delighted grin lighting his whole face. His red plaid shirt hangs open over a gray tee, and his white hair is a little wild. Down on the tile, Pudding sits upright in the corner with his eyes turned up to follow the show, expression serious and fully absorbed. Wooden cabinets, a window with blinds and a cluttered counter fill the background. The window blinds cast stripes of light across the floor, and the whole room feels as though a favorite old song is playing somewhere just out of sight.
Moving around to music is a gentle, enjoyable way for older adults to stay active, and many people find having a pet in the room adds to the fun. For cats, a dancing human is mostly a fascinating event, but watch your steps, since a cat darting between your feet is a common cause of trips. Gently guiding him to a safe spot, like a chair or windowsill, keeps everyone steady. If you have balance concerns, check with your doctor about what activity suits you, and keep floors clear and well lit.
A kitchen can be a dance floor if the mood is right. Gus has his rhythm, and Pudding has the best seat in the house. The audience is small, but very loyal.
