The Rain Came Down in Sheets, and Nobody on This Porch Wanted to Go Inside
Rain is coming down in sheets beyond the porch rail, puddling in the yard and dripping off the edge of the roof, and Harold and Ruth could not be happier about it. They sit snug on the covered porch, Ruth in a gray cardigan with a soft smile, Harold in a plaid shirt, both gazing out toward the street. Right in front of them, filling the lower half of the scene, Miso lounges along the porch ledge, his cream body relaxed and his blue eyes trained on the falling rain. A doormat, a pair of slippers, potted plants and a jumble of porch clutter suggest they settled here for the long haul.
Plenty of cats love watching rain from a safe, dry spot. The constant movement of drops and the sound on the roof can be quite stimulating, especially for curious breeds like the Siamese. Storms can be a different story, though. Thunder and sudden gusts frighten many pets, so it is good to have a quiet indoor hiding spot ready, such as a covered bed or a cozy box in an interior room. Staying calm yourself also helps, since animals often pick up on our mood. If your cat becomes very anxious during storms, your vet can suggest ways to help.
There is no rush to go anywhere today. The rain will stop when it stops, and until then, there is a dry porch, warm company and a cat who seems to be enjoying every drop from a distance.
