Dottie Lifted Marigold to the Window for Her First Look at the Snow
Outside the tall window, snow settles over the garden, bare trees and a low wall. Inside, Dottie holds Marigold up high so she can see it all, one arm gently supporting her. Her silver braid hangs over a denim shirt and her smile is soft as she looks toward the white world beyond the glass. Marigold stretches tall in her arms, white front paws raised, pink nose pointed at the window and her ears sharp with interest as the flakes drift down.
Cats are natural watchers, and a window is a favorite entertainment. Snow, birds and moving shadows all give them something to follow, and a perch beside a sunny window can be a simple enrichment for an indoor cat. When winter comes, keep a few cold-weather rules in mind: cats should not be left outside for long in freezing conditions, and antifreeze, a sweet-tasting poison, should be cleaned up and stored securely. Warm bedding near a window gives her a cozy lookout. If she seems to be shivering or reluctant to move after time outdoors, call your vet.
Marigold has probably never seen anything quite so interesting. The flakes dance and vanish and she follows each one. Dottie holds her up as long as she wants, and the quiet of the snow makes the moment feel even softer. The whole house seems to hush for the snow.
