Grandpa Otis Sat Down at the Old Piano. Someone Took the Seat Beside Him.
The old upright piano has seen better days, its dark wood scuffed and its ivory keys a little yellowed, but Grandpa Otis plays it like it's the finest instrument in the world. He sits in a cozy oatmeal-colored cardigan and plaid trousers, glasses resting low, both hands spread across the keys and a gentle smile on his face. Perched on the end of the wooden bench, Bruno sits up straight, bat ears tall, head tilted back to gaze at his grandpa with total devotion. Stacks of books, trailing plants, a woven basket, and a soft armchair fill the sunny room behind them.
Many dogs seem to respond to music, and some owners notice their pets settling down when calm, gentle tunes are playing. Slower, softer music tends to suit a relaxing atmosphere, while loud or sudden sounds can startle sensitive pets. French Bulldogs are known as affectionate, people-focused companions who usually want to be wherever their person is, which makes them natural audience members. Because Frenchies have short, stocky legs and can be prone to back and joint issues, it's kinder to lift them onto and off of benches and furniture instead of letting them jump.
Whether it's an old hymn, a jazz standard, or something Otis is making up on the spot, Bruno is clearly his biggest fan. Every musician should be so lucky to have an audience this loyal.
