Frank and Ruth Left the Dishes for a Slow Dance. Domino Had the Best Reaction.

Somewhere a radio must be playing an old favorite, because Frank and Ruth have abandoned the dishes for a slow dance in the middle of the kitchen. He holds her hand to his chest in a green tee, she leans into him in a sunny yellow cardigan, and both are smiling like it is their first dance all over again. Right up front, stealing the scene, Domino looks back toward the camera with a huge open-mouthed grin, his white-tipped tail mid-wag. Wooden cabinets, a kettle on the stove, a bowl of fruit, and a dish rack piled with plates make the room feel warm and well used.

Dogs are remarkably tuned in to the emotions of their people. Many owners notice their dogs perk up, wag, or come closer when the household is happy and relaxed, and some dogs will even try to squeeze between dancing or hugging partners. Music can also be part of a dog's day: some owners find that soft, calm music seems to help their pets settle when home alone. On the flip side, very loud music can be stressful for sensitive ears, so keeping the volume moderate is kind. A dog who joins the fun should always have room to step away to a quiet corner if things get too exciting.

Some couples have a song. Frank and Ruth seem to have a song and a dance partner waiting in the wings, with a tail keeping perfect time.
