Every Night Frank and Ruth Do the Same Thing Before Lights Out
Bedtime has a ritual in this house. Domino sits upright in his round, plush dog bed while Ruth smooths a soft cream blanket over his chest and Frank tucks in the other side, both leaning close with the tenderness usually reserved for grandchildren. The Frenchie gazes up at them with calm, sleepy eyes, front paws resting on the edge of the blanket. Scattered chew toys and a rubber bone lie on the wooden floor, while a teacup, a framed flower print, and a knitted throw on the chair make the room feel cozy and warm.
A consistent bedtime routine can help dogs settle for the night, just as it does for people. Many dogs do well with a final short potty break, a few calm minutes of attention, and a familiar bed in a quiet spot. Bolstered beds, like this one, give dogs something to rest their head against, which many enjoy, and they can be especially welcome for flat-faced breeds that sometimes prefer to sleep with their chin propped up. A light blanket is fine if your dog likes it, but make sure he can move out from under it easily and does not get too warm, since French Bulldogs do not handle heat well. Washing bedding regularly also helps keep skin and coat healthy.
It is hard to say who enjoys this nightly tuck-in more. Domino gets the comfort, but Frank and Ruth clearly get the best view in the house.
