Odessa Was Down to the Last Few Puzzle Pieces. Onyx Pulled Up a Chair.

The jigsaw puzzle is nearly half done, and Onyx has taken a seat at the table like a serious competitor. He sits upright on a wooden chair in the foreground, wavy black coat shining, golden eyes wide and ears up. Across from him, Grandma Odessa in a cream cardigan and glasses bends over the pieces, a mug and a pair of reading glasses within reach. Late light filters through lace curtains in the kitchen behind them, over a fruit bowl and a stack of dish towels. A scattering of edge pieces already sits sorted along one side of the board.

Puzzles are a fine pastime for people of every age, and a quiet, steady one for older adults who enjoy something to focus on. For cats, a puzzle table is a mix of fun and temptation. Small pieces can be batted across the floor or swallowed, so check the floor when you are done and store the box lid-side up. Cardboard is not harmful in tiny scraps but is not meant to be eaten. A Devon Rex is bright and loves to be involved, so give your cat a puzzle feeder or a toy to work on at the same time. Mental games are good enrichment for indoor cats of any breed.

If Onyx knows where the last piece goes, he is not telling. He has the focus of a champion either way.
