Odessa Reached for the Reddest Apple. Onyx Checked Every One on the Ground.
Red apples hang overhead, and Grandma Odessa reaches up to pick the best one, smiling under the leaves. She wears a green cardigan and her silver hair is tucked behind her ear, the very picture of a good harvest day. Down below, Onyx walks among the fallen apples with his nose low, sniffing each one in turn. A basket of fruit, a watering can and a quiet backyard fill the background, and the late light glows over the grass. It is a simple scene with a lot of sweetness in it. Somewhere above, a leaf drifts down and lands near a shiny red apple.
Orchards are lovely for humans, but a few things in them are not safe for cats. Apple seeds and stems contain compounds that can be harmful if eaten in quantity, and fallen apples may be rotten, fermenting or covered in pesticide. Keep your cat from chewing on windfalls, and wash fruit from the yard before sharing. Most cats are not interested in eating apples, but they do love to bat them around. Devon Rex cats are playful and curious, so they tend to investigate everything. Bring a harness if you plan to take your cat out among the trees, and check him for burrs and bugs afterward.
Odessa fills the basket, and Onyx inspects the ground. Between them, no apple goes unchecked.
