Two Dogs Napped on Grandma's Quilt While She Stitched Away
Grandma sits on the couch in her green cardigan, bent over a colorful patchwork quilt with needle and thread in her hands. Her glasses are low on her nose and her brow is lightly furrowed as she works. Spread across the fabric pile in front of her, a big tan dog is curled up fast asleep, and Penny the Yorkshire Terrier lies right beside him with her nose stretched curiously toward his face. A wicker basket, a lamp, framed photographs, and bits of fabric fill the busy, cozy room. Sunlight spills across the cushions, and the whole room looks warm and gold.
Sewing with pets nearby takes some care. Needles, pins, and thread can be dangerous if swallowed, so keep supplies in a closed container when you are not using them and sweep up loose ends. Many dogs love to nap on soft fabric, and a washable blanket of their own can save your quilt. Small and large dogs can be wonderful friends, but supervise them while they share space, and give each dog a spot to rest.
Penny seems to be studying her larger friend with great interest. The tan dog sleeps on, undisturbed. Grandma keeps stitching, content with the company. There is room for everyone on a quilt this big.
A little quilt, a little company, and a very cozy afternoon.
