The TV Was Off and Both of Them Were Out Cold
Otis has tipped back into his favorite recliner, his cardigan loose and his mouth just a little open as he dozes. On the arm of the chair beside his head, Pepper lies curled up, chin on her paws, eyes closed in perfect agreement with him. A dark TV stands across the room beside a plant, a knitted throw hangs on a table, and sunlight slides through the curtains. A remote sits on the table and a coffee mug is half finished, so it seems the show lost out early.
Dogs are experts at finding the exact spot where they can be close to their person. For small breeds like Shih Tzus, an armrest or a lap offers warmth, comfort, and a view of the whole room. Dogs of this age and size often sleep many hours a day, and a quiet, familiar spot helps them rest well. If a dog seems restless at night or her sleeping habits change suddenly, mention it to your vet. A simple blanket or a pet bed placed on a favorite chair can give her a safe place of her own too.
The TV has been off for a long time, and neither of them minds. An afternoon nap is a quiet pleasure that doesn't need an audience. Between the soft chair and the soft dog, the whole room looks as comfortable as it can possibly be. Rest like this is well earned.
