The Wicker Basket Became the Coziest Bed in the House for Two Friends
Late afternoon sun slants across the living room and lands on a wicker basket that has become the coziest bed in the house. Inside, a fluffy white Maltese with tousled fur lies with its eyes shut, and right beside it a little tan and white baby goat rests its chin on the soft cream blanket, also fast asleep. Their heads tilt toward each other as though they nodded off mid-conversation. A green couch with a plaid throw, a stuffed bunny on the floor and a potted plant set the scene of a calm, sleepy home.
Maltese are small toy dogs with long, silky white coats and a reputation for being gentle, affectionate and devoted to their people. They often enjoy curling up in snug spots, which may explain why sharing a basket comes so naturally here. Their coat does not shed much but tangles easily, so regular brushing and grooming help keep it healthy, and many owners also wipe around the eyes to reduce staining. Because Maltese are so small, they can be fragile, so interactions with livestock, even baby ones, should always be gentle and supervised, especially once the goat grows stronger hooves and a playful head butt.
For now, the basket is big enough for two, and both of them look exactly where they want to be. Some friendships simply fit, no matter how different the friends.
