Bandit Found the Best Perch in the House. Someone Else Was Already On It.
An old tractor seat has found a second life as the best perch in the house, and Bandit, a shaggy black rescue mutt with a bright white chest and white-tipped paws, sits proudly right beside it. Perched on the worn, cracked leather seat is a fawn-colored baby goat with tiny horns, folding its legs underneath and gazing out calmly. The two lean toward each other, cheek to cheek, looking like an old married couple posing for a portrait. A basket, a potted plant and a cozy kitchen with wooden cabinets glow softly in the background.
Goats love to climb and perch on high spots, which is part of their natural behavior as mountain and hill animals. Giving them safe, stable places to climb, like sturdy benches, stumps or old equipment with sharp edges removed, can keep them happy and active. Be careful with machinery parts, though, since rusty metal, exposed springs and grease are not safe for curious mouths and hooves. Bandit, for his part, shows the classic easygoing temperament many rescue dogs settle into once they feel at home. Positive, supervised time with other animals can help a rescue dog build confidence.
This seat may never plow another field, but it has a brand new purpose now. With these two holding court, it might just be the most popular chair in the house.
