Bandit the Rescue Mutt Got a Wagon Ride, and He Wasn't Riding Alone
A hand grips the rope, the wagon wheels bump over the grass, and two passengers settle in for the ride. Bandit, a black rescue mutt with a white chest and a blue collar, sits tall in the old wooden wagon with his head turned to study his traveling companion. Beside him, a small brown and white baby goat with little horns and bright eyes peers forward, clearly enjoying the trip. The backyard glows in the evening light, with a weathered fence, a blue bucket, potted plants and garden tools scattered across the lawn.
Mixed-breed rescue dogs come in every shape and personality, and many adopters find them to be wonderfully adaptable companions. Because a mutt's background is often unknown, it is helpful to observe the dog's energy level, play style and reaction to other animals before introducing new friends like goats or chickens. Shelters and rescues can often share what they have learned about a dog's behavior, and a basic training class is a great way to build communication. A wagon ride is a fun bonding activity, but go slowly, stick to smooth ground, and keep a close eye on both animals so nobody jumps out mid-trip.
Wherever this wagon ends up, Bandit and his little goat buddy are going together. It is the simplest kind of adventure, and they look thoroughly pleased with it.
