A Bulldog Gave Up Half His Fluffy Bed to a Copper-Colored Cat
The fluffy cream dog bed was surely bought with one occupant in mind, yet it now holds a white Bulldog and a ruddy Abyssinian, both taking up exactly their share. The Bulldog rests his heavy, wrinkled head on his big front paws, with a calm and slightly droopy expression. The cat lies tucked against him, her warm copper coat and big upright ears making a handsome contrast to all that pale fur. Piles of laundry and a green plant sit behind them.
We could call them Duke and Rosie. Duke has the placid look of someone who gave up the bed without a fight, and Rosie keeps one watchful eye on the room while she warms herself against him.
English Bulldogs are mellow, affectionate dogs, but their short noses and compact build mean they overheat easily and should not be pushed to exercise in warm weather. They enjoy lounging and need a soft, supportive bed. Abyssinians are lean, active and curious cats that love climbing and play, so a cat who naps this peacefully may be saving energy. Sharing a bed is fine for many pets, but if one gets crowded or guards it, offer separate beds in the same room. Wash bedding regularly, and ask your vet if a joint-friendly bed is right for an older dog.
Duke and Rosie have worked out the arrangement, and the bed has never looked fuller or happier.
