A Silver Weimaraner Became a Warm Pillow for a Whole Litter

The hay is soft and golden, and a silver grey Weimaraner has settled into it with his head resting on a front paw. Pressed into the curve of his chest, a heap of kittens sleeps in every color: an orange one with its face tucked down, a black and white one, a pair of tabbies, and a calico curled in a tight spiral. One kitten has found his big paw and is using it as a pillow. A barn wall stands in the background.

Weimaraners were bred as hunting dogs, and they have an athletic build and a strong bond with their people. They often have a gentle side with smaller animals and enjoy having a job to do, even if that job is guarding a nap. Hay makes a cozy bedding, but dust can irritate small lungs, so make sure it is clean and dry. Kittens sleep a great deal, often up to most of the day, as their bodies grow quickly. A warm, safe place to sleep is one of the best things you can give them, and your vet can offer feeding and care tips.

There is not a single sound beyond slow breathing. The Weimaraner's eyes are closed, but one ear twitches when a kitten shifts. He knows exactly where each one is. When they wake up, they will tumble out into the barn and make a mess of everything. For now, everyone is asleep in the golden hay.
