Frost Covered the Window and the Cat Had Thoughts About It
Ice crystals have crept across the window glass in feathery patterns, and the garden beyond is white. Inside, a grey Exotic Shorthair sits upright on a chunky knit blanket with round copper eyes fixed on something outside. Waffles the puppy leans against the sill beside him with his eyes closed and his chin on the wool. The cat's flat face and plush coat make him look like a very serious little bear, and the puppy looks entirely unbothered by the weather.
Exotic Shorthairs are often described as the easygoing cousin of the Persian. They have a similar sweet, round face but a shorter coat that needs less grooming. Their flat faces are cute, but they can make breathing and tear drainage a little more delicate, so ask your vet about eye cleaning and general care for a flat-faced breed. Cats love windowsills in winter because glass lets in light and warmth, and it also gives them a view of everything happening outside. A padded sill or a blanket helps, and a cold window should never be the only place a cat or puppy can sleep.
Winter has a way of making a quiet room feel even softer. The cat watches the frost with the patience of a philosopher, and the puppy dreams, and neither seems to feel the need to be anywhere else.
