The Windowsill Was Barely Wide Enough for Two, and They Tried
The windowsill is narrow, the paint is a little worn, and the two of them have squeezed onto it anyway. A cream Exotic Shorthair, with a squashed little nose and a sleepy frown, has his chin on the sill. Waffles the puppy sprawls next to him with his head drooping over the edge and his eyes shut. Outside, autumn trees and a bit of curtain frame a gentle afternoon, and a small plant sits at the corner.
Cats are sun-seekers by nature. They like warmth, and a sunny sill lets them soak it up while keeping an eye on birds, squirrels and passing cars. A sunny perch can be good for a cat's mood and gives them gentle exercise as they stretch and shift with the light. Make sure the window is secure, though, and that screens are in good shape. A fall from a high window is a real danger, and cats can be surprisingly good at squeezing through small gaps. If a window gets very hot in direct summer sun, offer a cooler spot too.
Puppies, on the other hand, will nap anywhere that is soft enough or warm enough. Today, that happens to be right next to a grumpy-looking cat who secretly loves the company. It looks like a very good afternoon for sunbathing. When the sun moves along the wall, they will probably follow it together, one sleepy shuffle at a time.
