One Cardboard Box, One Maltese, and a Calf Who Wouldn't Be Left Out
A cardboard box has become a bed in the middle of the hallway. A little white Maltese with silky fur looks out from one side, his dark eyes round and soft. Clover the calf fits in the other side with her head resting against the rim and her ears angled outward. Hay has been spread across the bottom for warmth, and behind them a basket of laundry, a plant and a pair of slippers show this is a busy household.
Maltese dogs are small, gentle companions with long, silky white coats and a playful nature. They are devoted to their people and often enjoy being close to them. Their hair grows continuously and needs frequent brushing to prevent tangles, and regular trims are common. The tear stains that appear on white fur can be reduced with gentle cleaning. Like many small breeds, they can be fragile, so they should be handled carefully. Boxes appeal to many animals because they feel cozy and enclosed, though tape, staples and plastic should be removed to keep things safe.
The Maltese looks perfectly pleased, and Clover looks equally content. The box is a snug fit, but nobody is complaining. It is a small space with a very big amount of comfort. Eventually someone will find the box has two new owners, and they will probably not have the heart to move them.
