Two Friends Sat on the Porch Steps and Watched the Evening Arrive
The porch light has just come on, and a golden retriever sits on the weathered wooden steps with a gentle smile and a thoughtful, faraway look. Right next to him, sitting at the same upright angle, is Clover, the small brown rabbit. Both of them look off to the same spot in the garden, where a watering can, a clay pot and a green fence catch the last of the evening glow.
Golden Retrievers are famously friendly, eager to please and patient, which is one reason they are so popular with families. They need regular exercise and plenty of attention, and many love to carry things in their mouths. A calm evening on the porch is a nice way for any dog to wind down after a day of activity. If you want to include a rabbit in porch time, make sure the area is enclosed so she cannot dash away, and keep an eye out for cold or damp boards. Rabbits are also sensitive to temperature, so dusk in cooler weather may mean it is time to head inside. Your vet can give tips for your climate.
The two look like old neighbors who have shared this evening ritual for years. Neither is saying anything. The dog's soft eyes follow whatever drifts across the yard, and Clover's ears swivel to catch each small sound. A porch step is just wide enough for two friends and a little quiet, and that seems to be exactly what they came for.
