Morning Came Slowly for a Black Cat and a Gray Bunny

The morning has not quite started yet. A black Maine Coon, fluffy and dark against a tangle of blankets, peers over the top of a waffle-weave quilt with golden eyes still a little sleepy. Right in front of him, a gray lop-eared bunny pokes her nose out of a fold in the blanket, her ears flopped and her eyes blinking. A lamp glows behind them on a shelf that is covered with books and a coffee mug, and a houseplant leans toward the window. It looks like a lazy Sunday.

Cats and rabbits both tend to sleep in short stretches, with a lot of resting during the day and more activity at dawn and dusk. That is why a household with both can find a similar rhythm in the early mornings, when everyone is awake and calm. Big, fluffy cats like Maine Coons are known for their easygoing nature, and many enjoy being near their people. Blankets are a great comfort item, but make sure they are not heavy enough to trap a small animal, and that there are no loose threads. Rabbits can easily get tangled or chew fibers, so check the fabric regularly.

The two seem to have woken at the same moment and are quietly deciding what to do about it. For now, the answer is clearly nothing at all, and the warm quilt agrees.
