A Black Pom Soaked Up the Sun With Six Ducklings Beside Him
Sunlight slants across a weathered wooden deck, and a black Pomeranian has stretched out in the warmest strip of it. His fluffy coat looks like a puff of soot and his tiny dark eyes are half closed in contentment. Right beside him a row of six yellow ducklings lies in a line, bills pointed toward the dog and down feathers glowing in the light. The yard stretches out beyond the boards, with green shrubs, a few leaves and soft shadows. Everyone in the picture looks warm and in no rush.
Pomeranians are small dogs with big personalities, descended from larger sled-pulling spitz dogs. They are bold, alert, and often quite vocal, and their thick double coat needs regular brushing. Because of their small size, they can be injured easily, and so can ducklings, so any meeting between the two should be supervised and calm. Sun is lovely, but ducklings and fluffy dogs can overheat, so provide shade and fresh water nearby. Ducklings need a warm, safe brooder and gradual time outside, and your vet can advise you on caring for both the little dog and the little birds.
The tiny black Pom and the tiny yellow ducklings make a striking pair, like two colors from the same box. The sun is warm, the deck is quiet, and nobody has any other plans for the afternoon.
