One Schnauzer, Seven Kittens, and a Hammock Meant for One
The porch hammock is crowded, and nobody is complaining. A salt-and-pepper Miniature Schnauzer lies in the center with his bearded chin up and his dark eyes half closed, his ears folded forward. Around him, seven kittens are tucked into the folds of the knotted cotton rope, ginger, gray, white, black-and-white and calico, most of them fast asleep. Behind the hammock are a weathered porch railing, a plaid blanket, some work boots and a few potted plants. It seems like a lazy afternoon nobody wants to end.
Miniature Schnauzers are small dogs with a lot of confidence. They are quick learners, usually very loyal to their families, and their wiry coat needs regular grooming. Many enjoy being near their people, and they often get along with other pets when introduced well. A hammock is a fun place for a nap, but it needs to be safe. Make sure it is secure and hung low so no one is hurt in a fall, and watch that small kittens cannot slip through the rope. Kittens also need warmth and supervision, so ask your vet for tips on caring for a litter and introducing them to a dog.
The Schnauzer has the dignified look of a grandfather in a rocking chair. With seven kittens in his lap, he is in no hurry, and there is nowhere else he would rather be.
