A Red Goldendoodle Was the Engine for the Tiniest Wagon Ride
Everybody aboard! A curly red Goldendoodle in a little harness is hauling an old wooden wagon across the yard, and sitting inside it, side by side, is a row of ducklings looking very pleased with their ride. The dog glances back over her shoulder, ears floppy and tail low, to make sure all passengers are still present. Fallen leaves are scattered over the grass, and the house waits in the golden light. The wagon rattles gently over the lawn, and one duckling at the front leans forward, as if urging the dog to go a little faster.
Goldendoodles mix the friendly nature of a Golden Retriever with the clever mind of a Poodle. They are usually eager to please, easy to train and very sociable. Their curly coat needs regular brushing and trimming to prevent mats, and they typically need daily exercise to stay happy and well behaved.
Pulling carts is an old tradition for many dog breeds, but it takes careful training and the right equipment. A real dog should wear a well-fitted harness and pull only light loads, and breaks and water are essential. If you are curious about cart training, a professional trainer can show you how to do it safely.
For this gentle trip, though, the load is light and the route is short. The wagon wheels creak, the leaves crunch and the passengers enjoy the view. Every adventure is better with a ride. Wheels, wags and wonderful company.
