Her Face Says Grumpy, But the Puppy Is Sleeping on Her Shoulder
Not many cats can look so stern and so soft at the same time. A grey Exotic Shorthair with a flat face and copper eyes lies in the hay, wearing the expression of someone who has been asked to hold a baby and is taking it very seriously. Right against her cheek, a tan puppy sleeps with his muzzle tucked into her fur and one paw draped over her shoulder. Golden straw surrounds them in a cozy nest, and a few cardboard sheets and a burlap sack lean against the barn wall in the background.
Exotic Shorthairs are often described as the easygoing cousins of Persians. They have the same round face and plush build, but a shorter coat that needs less grooming, though a weekly brushing is still a good idea. They tend to be quiet, affectionate and happy to lounge near their people. Their flat faces mean some of them have trouble with tear staining or breathing in the heat, so keep them cool, wipe their eyes gently if needed, and talk to your vet about any concerns. Calm cats like this are often wonderful matches for gentle, sleepy puppies.
The cat may look grumpy, but the way she is holding perfectly still tells the real story. Nobody is going to wake that puppy if she has anything to say about it.
