The Russian Blue Wrapped Herself Around a Puppy on the Rug
Against a woven plaid rug set in the yard, a blue-grey Russian Blue lies in a perfect crescent, her chin resting gently over the shoulder of a golden puppy. Both have their eyes shut. The cat's silvery coat shimmers in the light, one big paw flops forward onto the rug, and the puppy's soft ear flops against her fur. Behind them, a weathered wooden fence and clay flowerpots mark the edge of the garden, and a few autumn leaves have drifted onto the grass. It is the picture of a late afternoon spent doing absolutely nothing together.
Russian Blues have a reputation for being gentle, quiet and a bit shy around strangers, while bonding deeply with their own people. Their dense, plush silver-blue coats and green eyes make them easy to recognize. Cats of this temperament often prefer calm routines, so a puppy introduced gradually, with plenty of cat-only rest spaces, tends to go over best. Outdoor rugs are cozy, but be sure the yard is secure and that your pets are up to date on vet care before spending time outside. Cats and dogs can truly become close companions when they feel safe.
Perhaps the puppy will wake up and wiggle off in a minute. For now, the rug is theirs, and the afternoon has no plans at all.
